ASI Celebrates its Most Recent Sommelier Champions

ASI pleased to recognize all its new sommelier champions. The last month has seen a number of sommeliers crowned ‘Best of’ in their respective countries. Some, like Canada’s Pier-Alexis Soulière, are familiar faces on the world stage, while others represent new talents set to launch their career in one of ASI’s continental contests and the upcoming ASI Contest Best Sommelier of the World, in Paris, France, in 2023.

 

Renato Cirilo Gomes is the Best Sommelier of Brazil

At the recently held ABS-Brasil Brazilian Sommeliers Contest the first place was awarded to Renato Cirilo Gomes, from Rio de Janeiro. Renato, as Brazilian champion, will represent Brazil in 2023, at the ASI Contest Best Sommelier of the World, in Paris. The performance of all the finalists was at a top level, however it was Gomes who most impressed the panel of 15 judges. ASI would like to congratulates to all those involved in ABS-SP and who have excelled for the organization by meeting the high standards of ASI international contests.

 


The Best Sommelier of Spain is Gabriel Lucas Dimmock

Gabriel Lucas Dimmock, of Mallorca, has been crowned the 2021 Best Sommelier of Spain. Coming second and third respectively were Ivan Monreal Herrera, from the Canary Islands, and Manu Fernandez representing Andalusia. ASI would like to congratulate all the candidates on their dedication to sommellerie and best luck in their future endeavours.

 


Pier-Alexis Soulière Wins Best Sommelier of Canada Contest

Pier-Alexis Soulière MS, the reigning ASI Best Sommelier of the Americas, ASI Diploma holder (n°1218), took home the title of Canada’s best for the first time. Despite his success on the world stage, Soulière had yet to win the Canadian title. Of the results, CAPS Canada president Lesley Brown says “we are very proud to have Pier-Alexis Soulière represent Canada at the upcoming ASI Contest Best Sommelier of the World in Paris. Pier-Alexis is a phenomenal representative of our sommelier industry in Canada. His victory is well-deserved.”

 


The Best Sommelier of Belgium is Dries Corneillie

ASI is delighted to congratulate the Best Sommelier of Belgium, Dries Corneillie. Coming in second and third place were Stephane Dardenne and Tresor Vets, respectively.  Corneillie, ASI Diploma holder (n°3211) joins a distinguished list of past Best Sommelier of Belgium champions which includes ASI President William Wouters.

 


Alexandr Glynants is the Best Sommelier of Kazakhstan 2021

On October 14th in the wine region of Almaty the 5th competition for the title of best sommelier of Kazahkstan was held under the direction of the AWSK (Association of Wine Specialists of Kazakhstan). The final pitted Alexandr Glynants and Ratmir Akhmetov, both in their third finals, along with newcomer Zulfiya Kirichkova. Glynants near flawless performance in the finals, allowed him to take the crown in an exciting competition.
