The Guide Michelin Switzerland event to honor new and existing starred restaurants in that country included a distinct ASI twist: Marc Almert, the ASI’s 2019 Best Sommelier of the World, will need some more room in his trophy case. As one of four special awards for remarkable achievement in the Swiss restaurant industry, Almert was declared the 2020 Michelin Sommelier of the Year for his remarkable work at the Pavillon in Zurich.
Speaking about the 2020 selection, Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, commented: “This is not the first time that our selection is a clear confirmation of the very high standard of Swiss gastronomy.”
Almert said of the prize: “To be awarded by the Michelin guide is a huge honour for the entire Pavillon team, both kitchen and service. Awards like this are always a team effort and thus it is a great motivation for us to continue our quest in crafting special culinary moments and a manifold wine offering for our guests.”
For the first time, the MICHELIN Star Revelation ceremony was held on 24 February in Ticino, where the city of Lugano welcomed over 400 guests.
