On February 3rd, after two days of competition involving fourteen Greek sommeliers and a guest sommelier from Cyprus, Aris-Iosif Sklavenitis was declared Best Sommelier of Greece 2019 by a jury featuring four presidents of national sommelier associations (Beata Vinkova from Slovakia, Tim Vollersley from Denmark, Peer F. Holm from Germany, and Samuil Angelov from Finland). Aris, who is the co-owner and head sommelier of Oinoscent Wine and Food Cellar in Athens, as well as vice-president of the Greek Sommelier Association, was a second time winner, after a first title in 2016. He had already been selected as the Greek candidate to the upcoming Best Sommelier in the World competition in Antwerp, with the new title making him eligible for the 2022 BSOW as well. Second and third place respectively went to Alexandros Bouzikas, sommelier at My Cava, in Thessaloniki, and George Loukakis, head sommelier at the Parklane resort in Cyprus.
