Andy O’Gorman, a pillar of Irish sommellerie, appreciated by all at ASI, has just left us, victim of cancer… Mary O’Callaghan, ex-president of the Irish association, and Andy’s friend, just sent us these few lines: “It is with deep regret that I inform you of the heartbreaking news of Andy’s death after a long illness.
Andy was larger than life, very kind person with a bid heart. He has left a huge void in the lives of all who loved him, and most especially in The Irish Guild of Sommeliers.”.
Andy O’Gorman was a familiar face at ASI for over thirty years along with his friend and accomplice Oliver Murtagh. He will be missed, as is Oliver who left us last year. Two colorful characters who were passionate about their profession and always ready to motivate the sommeliers of Ireland whom they supported through many international ASI contests. A big loss! Condolences to his family and courage to the association and its current president, Julie Dupouy Young!
