International Sommelier Day originally started in Mexico back in 2013, but has since spread to sommelier communities around the world. The celebration will once again be held on June 3 this year.
To mark the occasion, a series of 3 Zoom meetings will be held across the globe, starting in Asia and then moving on to Europe and finally the Americas. Each session will be hosted by the respective continental vice-presidents, who will kick off the celebration with a few words of a ‘Zoom toast’ and then open the floor for brief introductions by the attending sommeliers of themselves and their country… as well as whichever special bottle they’ve brought along for the event.
In a time where face-to-face means via computer or phone screens, this is a fantastic way for ASI members to get to know each other — and the wines we enjoy drinking — somewhat better.
The event will be streamed live on FB and ASI’s website, with the ASI social media team moderating the comments.
We look forward to seeing you there and learning how to say a local ‘Cheers’!
