Wines of Portugal – Portugal’s four main grapes, explained by an MW

18 Oct 2020

Portugal enjoys an impressive number of grape varieties that exist nowhere else in the world. More than 250 native grape varieties encourage Portuguese winemakers to make wines of personality that lay well outside the mainstream.

From now through the end of the year, Master of Wine Dirceu Vianna Junior will guide you  through a discovery of four of the main native grape varieties of Portugal: the red grapes Touriga Nacional, Baga and the whites Alvarinho and Arinto.

Each session will focus on one of these grapes, with Dirceu presenting three different varietal wines from that grape, debating their merits with a guest Portuguese winemaker.

These sessions will take place on Instagram / Zoom and will be advertised on the Wines of Portugal website and social media.
