After a lengthy approval process (it only took 11 years), the AOC Gigondas in the Rhône valley will include white wines starting with the 2023 vintage!🤩
The potential of Gigondas white wines is finally recognized thanks to its mosaic of limestone soils which brings minerality and freshness. Currently, over 16 hectares have been planted by around 30 producers to make white wines under the AOC Côtes du Rhône. Inclusion of white wines under Gigondas appellation is expected to boost white grapes growing and white wine production in the region, with a rise of 15% in the next 5 years.👍
Clairette Blanche is the main grape variety (minimum 70% in the blend) which can be blended with the traditional variteties in Gigondas (Bourboulenc Blanc, Clairette Rose, Grenache Blanc and Gris, Marsanne Blanche, Piquepoul Blanc and Roussanne, Viognier (<5%) and Ugni blanc (<5%)).
On the palate, you will find notes of white flowers as linden and acacia supported by a pleasant acidity. Get ready to discover the first and upcoming white wine vintage of this 50-year-old appellation! 😉

Today's feature is a traditional dish from the Czech Republic - Kulajda 🇨🇿
🍽️ Dish: creamy dill soup called “Kulajda” is a traditional dish of Czech cuisine.

Main ingredients of the dish are: dill, sour cream, butter, mushrooms and eggs. There are so many variants of this favorite soup and we can say that every Czech family has its own significant recipe of Kulajda. The smell and taste is very rich and creamy with the perfect balance of sweetness and sourness, highlighted with the scent of the fresh dill.
🍷Wine recommendation from the sommelier: because of the fact the soup is very rich and flavourful it works perfectly with dry white medium bodied wine with spicy notes. For example Sauvignon blanc or Chardonnay that aged in oak barrels for a while. Or you can choose some light red wine like Pinot Noir. And because Czech Republic is also a nation of beer lovers you can try the combination of Kulajda soup with some good beer as well. 🙂 Last time we prepared Kulajda, we paired it with Cuvée Bellus from Vinařství Válka. This cuvée is based on Chardonnay grapes with Pinot Blanc, Aurelius and Gewürztraminer. Wine aged in oak barrels. It’s nicely soft and well-structured wine that works perfectly with Kulajda soup!
